Giant’s Realm

Chyulu Hills, 2021

An incredibly unique and spectacular place to see elephants is the Chyulu Hills in Kenya. It is home to some of the largest elephants left on Earth, some of which have ivory going all the way to the ground They come to drink from a nearby watering hole nearly everyday, providing great opportunity for photography.

Capturing this image, I was fortunate enough to be close to my subject. Using a 50mm lens from a low angle, with the camera basically on the ground looking up at the elephant, I was able to accentuate the sheer size of these animals.

Most that come to drink are known, and are very relaxed around humans. Very humbling to be this close to such a magnificent creature.
